I think it is a great idea to get the group active again. We do not have
an official University Policy regarding digital copyright. It is in the
draft process. In the meantime we use some external resources (One
handout is attached) We also direct them to Stanford's copyright site.
http://fairuse.stanford.edu/Copyright_and_Fair_Use_Overview/chapter7/ind
ex.html
A few of our staff took this Sloan course -
http://www.sloan-c.org/workshop/copyright_march07.asp Linda Enghagen is
very knowledgeable and answered specific questions or scenarios we had.
She also has resources on classroom copyright available for a small fee.
I hope this helps.

I think it's a great idea to try to get the list serve active again. We
all can benefit by sharing and hearing from others!
We have copyright information, including our Quick Guide, for ALL
faculty, here:
http://cms.howardcc.edu/students/campus_services/library/information_for
_faculty/index.html (The Quick Guide points most of us in the right
direction, but sometimes we need to seek permission to keep ourselves
covered. In those cases, we use the forms in the link below to get help
from a Librarian in requesting copyright permissions from the
publisher.)
If an instructor wants to put resources in an online Electronic
Reserves, password protected, using the Docutek server, we have some
other information and online forms here:
http://cms.howardcc.edu/students/campus_services/library/information_for
_faculty/placing_materials_on_reserve/electronic.html
Our faculty are required to attend training before they can teach an
online course with WebCT. As part of their training, they use this link
to the TEACH Act as a resource in one assignment:

stanceed/distanceeducation.htm

Subject: [Idag] Get the group active again? - Copyright
Hi all,
Just wondering if people are interested in getting this list serve group
active again?
My first question (or should I say request) is how many of your colleges
have a Copyright Manual, instruction booklet , or written copyright
policy for faculty teaching/supplementing online? I would like to
create a Copyright Manual for our online faculty to round out the other
resources we have. We currently require them to agree to adhere to
copyright law in order to get a Blackboard course created on our server
(link to copyright reousrces online). We also online instructors to
view a TEACH act copyright training videotape. But I would like to also
provide a copyright guidelines manual to each instructor. Would anyone
be willing to share such a document, or know of a good manual or set of
guidelines that I could use in whole? I would like to provide it in
both paper form and online form, so copyright permissions is an issue
(ironic, huh? lol). I would be willing to pay for a book, as long as it
is brief enough to not turn off faculty members, yet comprehensive
enough to protect the college.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi, all!
In the spirit of reviving the list, as well as introductions, here I
go... :)
My name is Suzi Mazzenga, I'm an Instructional Design Specialist at a
college in Philadelphia. I've been researching 3D immersive technologies
(aka MUVEs) for new ways of both teaching and learning.
The best bet I've found so far seems to be SecondLife over Active Worlds
and others, since SecondLife is cross-platform compatible and seems to
be the buzz-creator in the news, hence more users.
After checking out some of the more extensive environments (such as Ohio
University's virtual campus) as well as the educator groups, I have to
say, I'm impressed. The uses of a virtual world are literally limitless.
So my question is kind of two-part.
1. Does anyone have a SecondLife account and could we start an IDAG
group in SL?
2. Has anyone already begun implementing SL into their classrooms, and
how has the response been? Also, if already implementing, what are some
obstacles you've run into while implementing?
I look forward to everyone's responses! :)
