Thanks to everyone who responded to my copyright question. It's good to know that a few others are in the same boat as me. And even better to know that there are others who are willing to share what they have. :-) I promise to share what I have done when it is complete. It will probably be a few months, as I am trying to gather information and work on this in my "spare time". But I wanted everyone to know that I am very appreciative.

For the sake of sharing what few resources we are currently using, there are links to 3 copyright resources sites we use at our college below.

View the guidelines for making materials available electronically in Blackboard or on a web site.

TEACH Act Best Practices using Blackboard <http://www.ala.org/ala/washoff/woissues/copyrightb/distanceed/teachactbest.htm> - From the American Library Association

View the TEACH Act <http://www.utsystem.edu/ogc/intellectualproperty/teachact.htm> - "...provides educators with a separate set of rights in addition to fair use."

Thanks again!

I think it's a great idea to try to get the list serve active again. We all can benefit by sharing and hearing from others!

We have copyright information, including our Quick Guide, for ALL faculty, here: http://cms.howardcc.edu/students/campus_services/library/information_for_faculty/index.html (The Quick Guide points most of us in the right direction, but sometimes we need to seek permission to keep ourselves covered. In those cases, we use the forms in the link below to get help from a Librarian in requesting copyright permissions from the publisher.)

If an instructor wants to put resources in an online Electronic Reserves, password protected, using the Docutek server, we have some other information and online forms here: http://cms.howardcc.edu/students/campus_services/library/information_for_faculty/placing_materials_on_reserve/electronic.html

Our faculty are required to attend training before they can teach an online course with WebCT. As part of their training, they use this link to the TEACH Act as a resource in one assignment: http://www.ala.org/ala/washoff/WOissues/copyrightb/federallegislation/distanceed/distanceeducation.htm

Subject: [Idag] Get the group active again? - Copyright

Hi all,

Just wondering if people are interested in getting this list serve group active again?

My first question (or should I say request) is how many of your colleges have a Copyright Manual, instruction booklet , or written copyright policy for faculty teaching/supplementing online? I would like to create a Copyright Manual for our online faculty to round out the other resources we have. We currently require them to agree to adhere to copyright law in order to get a Blackboard course created on our server (link to copyright reousrces online). We also online instructors to view a TEACH act copyright training videotape. But I would like to also provide a copyright guidelines manual to each instructor. Would anyone be willing to share such a document, or know of a good manual or set of guidelines that I could use in whole? I would like to provide it in both paper form and online form, so copyright permissions is an issue (ironic, huh? lol). I would be willing to pay for a book, as long as it is brief enough to not turn off faculty members, yet comprehensive enough to protect the college.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks in advance for your help
